Kelli's Story: I became involved with the Norfolk Pregnancy & Family Resource Centre in October 2012. With what started as a Children's Aid Society (CAS) referral became much more. I started taking parenting classes and completed the anger management workbook and also had been asked to come and check out the Moms' Group. To let you know a little about my situation, I am a single mother that had went down the wrong road and lost my daughter to CAS' Care. For the last year, I have been doing everything possible that I can to stay away from that road. Since then, I have made the choice to get myself involved with the Pregnancy Centre, it has taken a turn for the better. The groups I started with were so amazing and the women that work at the NPC are the most caring people I have ever met. After losing my daughter I always had people telling me they knew how I felt or acted like they did and wanted to help me. But the day I met my Client Support Worker and the other ladies at the NPC, I really knew what kindness and respect were truly like. I was in a rough spot around the time I got involved with the NPC and I do believe that without the help of these women I would have never had the strength, courage or the support I needed to get on the right path. The things these women were willing to do to help me were incredible such as helping advocate for me, they came to meetings with me and even took time out of their own lives to just to help me out. If I had a bad day, which was often they always helped me. I have learned so many useful things through the NPC that I use every day. I can't wait to come each week to NPC. It's my favorite thing to do because I know that when I walk in the door I am greeted by the friendliest women I have ever met before and I feel no matter what I have to say that day, whether bad or good they still treat me the same. NPC has saved my life with all these groups and lessons that have helped make me the mother I am today. I am proud to say it has paid off because as of November 18th my daughter is HOME! Thank you NPC! You helped me become the strong woman and mother I am today. Thank you so much for hearing my story how the NPC is such a big part in my life and I hope for years down the road they continue to be. -Kelli
Brian’s Story: Brian was referred to the Norfolk Pregnancy Centre (NPC) by C.A.S. He and his girlfriend were expecting a baby. C.A.S.’s plan was to apprehend at birth because of the parents’ addictions to drugs. The first time we met Brian he was stoned. Sadly, we did not see Brian again for several months. He missed his appointments. We prayed for Brian in our daily devotions. Brian yearned to be a loving dad, free of his addictions, but he didn’t know how to move forward and find a new life filled with hope and security for his child. Brian’s beautiful baby was born and C.A.S. did apprehend. Several months later Brian returned to the NPC. God answered our prayers! After a few visits with his baby he was determined to clean up his act and regain custody of his child. Brian needed to learn all the parenting skills; diapering, feeding etc. How can you know what you have never been taught? We were so impressed with Brian over the months he attended parenting education and support groups at the NPC and in the community. He finally found a place of hope and healing where he felt safe. Brian has a new sense of hope. The hope of being a great dad! We are proud to say Brian is clean! He is so comfortable around his child now and is on the road to regaining custody of his child. His hope and dream is to one day raise his child in a home of honor. What an amazing transformation God has done in this young man’s life. He continues to learn about the kind of dad God needs him to be. We are now focusing on teaching Brian life skills.
